The Oakhanger Village Show 2021

This was the first event in the village for two years and the people of Oakhanger showed their appreciation by turning out in force for the 66th Oakhanger Village Show! It was a beautiful sunny day and everyone came prepared to make the most of it, catch up with old friends and enjoy the festivities, fun and games. The morning began with people flocking to the Show Tent with offerings of vegetables, flower, fruit arrangements, photos, children's models, cakes, jams, homemade wines and more, all hoping that they might be harbouring a winner! By the time the Show Tent closed for judging, there was a wonderful display all around the tent.

The Alton Rock Choir opened up the event with some great songs, which had us all singing along and put us in a wonderful up-beat mood for the rest of the day.

There was then a wonderful impromptu display by the most lovely little horse and handler, who could play the piano, count, bow and many other things, much to the delight of the crowd.

The stalls did a roaring trade - we had the tombola with over 300 prizes kindly helped with donations from people in the village, the egg game, and other fun kids' games - you could try the old fashioned one arm bandits, buy plants and flower pots, books, icecream, candyfloss, raffle tickets, cards and cakes, rummage throgh the bric-a-brac stall or relax in the sun with a cup of tea and cake. The BBQ did not stop all day and neither did the beer tent next door.

The Family Sports once again attracted competitors from all age groups who love the old-fashioned games on offer: three legged, wellie throwing, hay-bale hurdles, running and wheel barrow races and many more. Sadly the heavens opened at 4pm, curtailing the games slightly, but when the rain slacked off the egg throwing competition took place causing, as always, much hilarity.
